What’s the Deal?

Does it seem to you that it gets colder than it used to? I don’t think it does but it sure seems to bother me more and more as I get older.  I have to keep telling myself that it is "Winter". I guess I used to just go on to work and forget about it. January is the Winter here in the Desert.  It doesn’t last long and it’s a small price to pay for all the enjoyment we get out of staying out here in the desert.  Plus, we NEVER have to shovel snow. That was always the worst thing about the 40+ years I spent in Nebraska, scooping all the snow!

About the only thing I have accomplished lately is the installation of this cover for the back of the truck. I spoke with a dealer in Rapid City that installs several different brands of these and he told me the best one to get. I purchased one and had it shipped direct to me here at North Ranch. He told me it was easy to put on and he was right. It was fun to install and I am very pleased with it.

It's a real nice vinyl and with a flip of the latch in the rear, you can roll it up and Velcro it up in the front. So I can just roll it up when I have the Harley or anything else big loaded. Now we have a place we can haul something that is well protected and out of the weather.

There's not much going on around here so not a lot to write about. We've both been a little "under the weather" but we're on the mend.  Hope your first few days of 2011 have  been good ones.

It is a GREAT WEEK!!!!

Thanks for stopping by.

Hmm, which brand cover did you buy? I have a Truxedo on my Dodge Dakota that is 8 years old now and a bit tired, but it was really good for most of that time.

Great looking cover for your truck, Mike. Also, it was nice to hear it installed as easily as the dealer said - that's not always the case.

Hope you are both feeling much better in a few days!

Mike is that a hard or soft cover? You said vinyl and roll up so I am thinking it is a soft cover,I have had several and they did a good job for me on my last two trucks, This time I went with a hard cover, called Fold a Cover, it is in sections and when folded open you can haul your 5th wheel with the front part still covered. I love it but they are about twice as much as a soft cover,Not being prejudiced since I own a Silverado Duramax, but that is a fine looking truck you got a hold of. Good luvk with the new ride, Be safe out there. Sam & Donna..

Had the same type cover on our GMC 4x4 Laredo a few years back & it worked find. Kept things out of site from all the prying eyes around!! In Why Arizona one time I made the mistake of setting my black cowboy hat on the back cover while cleaning the truck & forgot about it. Kelly drove away in the truck a couple hours later with my hat dancing on the back. She luckily saw it about to become airborne about half a mile down the road & saved it. I felt really dumb about that because I had just done the same thing with my wallet days before & scattered my wallet, drivers license & credit cards all over the highway outside the Hickiwan Trails campground!!

Very good idea Mike. That roll up tonneau cover will suit your motorcycling and non-motorcycling needs. Nice truck too.

I'm hoping the weather warms up for you folks soon too.....cause we are soon to leave and we will want sun and heat upon arrival and during our desert stay.

Cheers.

Hi Mike and Pat!

First let me say that it’s truly remarkable how much the both of you are able to experience in your full-timing journey. I hope you’re staying warm with the crazy winter weather! I love to travel and “Mike and Pat's Travels” has been a great resource in seeing what interesting places there are to visit in the U.S.

I also noticed that you’ve mentioned Flying J Travel Centers in earlier posts and how you use them for fuel, propane, food, Wi-Fi, etc.

The reason I’m contacting you today is to introduce you to a new program from Pilot Flying J, the Frequent Fueler Advantage, an enhanced loyalty program for professional drivers and RV customers. RV cardholders in the program will receive instant discounts on fuel, propane purchases and dumping fees. Coming soon, RV cardholders will receive discounts at the truck diesel islands in addition to the specified RV fueling lanes.

I know that a lot of your readers are fellow RVers so I wanted to reach out to you to see if you would be interested in learning more about the Frequent Fueler Advantage and writing an article about them? What do you think?

For more information, please see the online press release at http://www.pitchengine.com/pitch/114722/. Please let me know if you need any additional information.

Thanks,
Kelly
