It's HOT and DRY..

I don’t remember it ever getting this HOT this early before.  Is it just me, or is it really this HOT? It is also very DRY.  It was an especially dry winter. Now granted, it doesn’t rain much in Arizona but it has really been dry this winter..  Now it's getting so hot and since it's so dry, the place is a FIRE waiting to happen.  Already there are 4-5 fires going on around the state and none of them are under control…. Scary!!

I know I’m sure looking forward to some cooler temperatures.  Our friends Bob and Cindy told us that they spent Mothers Day in their Motorhome up by our place in the Black Hills and one night it got down to 19 deg. That would cool me off!! The low for the night around here has been in the 70’s and it gets up very close to 100 during the day and that’s with the humidity around 8-9%!

Remember our tree out front that froze in January of 2011 and we had to cut it back?  This picture was taken one year ago exactly. We were worried about it surviving…

Well, I took this picture yesterday and it's doing pretty good. We are sure happy to see it recovering so well because it provides quite a bit of shade for the front of our house.

The Oleanders that surround our property on the sides and back are also doing well and are in beautiful bloom right now.  These are all on an underground watering system. If they weren’t, they wouldn’t be doing so good at all.

We both have Dentist appointments today for checkups and cleaning. That should be our final Dr. appointment and hopefully hold us until next winter.  We have the Motorhome all cleaned up and now we are beginning to get it loaded.   It's only ONE WEEK from tomorrow until our departure date.  If this heat keeps getting to us, we may hit the road early.  I know I’m getting anxious but Oh Man, I have a lot to get done before we can go anywhere. This heat sure kills what little ambition I have fast!!

It is a GREAT WEEK!!!!

19 is a bit cold for me. We are now in San Francisco, and it is cool here.

Your yard looks lovely. So glad to hear the good news about the tree. Enjoy your week. Hope it cools down a bit.

It was hot & dry all winter in FL, been rainy & very green in the upper Midwest with our arrival. I can imagine it will be very dry in Rawlins, WY when we workamp there this summer and fall.

I don't know which is worse, hot and dry or a temp of 19!

PS - You can see the small elongated holes I was talking about in our aluminum rims on our blog header, my big fat hands are too big to get into those holes to screw in our TPMS sensors. I need to hire a ten year old on permanent staff I think, LOL!

Yes, Mike, it's pretty hot here in Benson, also. Our park does not allow underground watering systems or any kind of drip system on individual lots. So we have to go for the less thirsty plants. But our cactus are thriving on the once-in-a-while hosing I give them. And a seemingly dead red bird of paradise is coming back. Would love to follow you up to Custer this summer, but alas, we have other priorities.

It is definitely hot - we hit 106 yesterday and 104 today. I will be so glad when Jim heals up and we too can get out of here and head north. I'm hoping for June 7 but it sure looks like we're going to be in the 100's until then. The fires here in AZ are really scary. With the winds picking up this week-end things could get even worse. But I also don't want to face 19 degrees either. I'm such a wuss.

Looking at the National Weather Service forecasts, it seems that the below freezing stuff is mostly over for Custer..... You should be safe now no matter when you leave....

Those trees are so pretty. What kind are they?

19 doesn't work for me & nor does anything over 90. Such extremes we seem to live in at times. A daytime high of 75 is about perfect for me. I can well understand that heat knocking the stuffings out of you & draining your energy. Happens to me every summer here now. Didn't have that problem years ago so maybe it's just another age thing catching up. I wonder if there is such a thing as a perfect weather place......

We just pulled into Custer this afternoon and it is very comfortable. 64 right now down to about 55 tonight and cooling off a bit over the weekend. We are at Beaver Lake Campground a very nice place.
