Not much NEWS this week.............

Things have slowed down a lot around the BLACK HILLS and our place. It was still a cool week, but most of the Bikers have headed back to their homes. We were able to get our morning walk in every day except Tuesday when we had to be in Rapid City at Dr. Hafner's Black Hills Regional Eye Clinic at 8:30 am. It was time for our annual eye check ups.

Here is a little 1 minute clip from the local newspaper on the headlines for the area. It's kinda neat........A Wagon Train, a Sturgis Shooting, Rattlesnakes and the Little League World Series are all part of this week in review.

We were excited that the Little League team from Rapid City made it to the Little League World Series playoff's. It was a FIRST for South Dakota! We hoped they would make a good showing, but that wasn't going to be. They quickly lost the first game 10-0, then yesterday they came out strong in the beginning but lost it in the 4th inning. Final score was 9-4. That pretty much squelches their chances of moving into the finals. They have one more game Monday. It's FUN to watch these young fellows play and Win, Lose or Draw, this will be an experience they won't forget. We'll be there Monday cheering them on!!!

While we were in town we stopped by the new Cabela's Sporting goods store that just opened in Rapid City. Folks in the area are quite excited about the store and it's a nice addition to the Hills, but it doesn't compare to the Cabela's Home Store in Sidney, Nebraska. I was surprised... it's a small store, not even as big as the one in Mitchell, SD. However, it does have the usual MAZE of sporting goods, hunting and fishing supplies, plus much more. I am in complete AWE when I enter one of these stores. My eyes get as big as saucers.......WOW !!!! It has some NEAT inside displays. I went especially to see the Herd of BUFFALO............Here are a few photo's:

That was about it for us this week, it was unusually cool all week. The high was 79 on Tuesday and the low was 43 on Saturday morning..............We ended up the week with a Cook Out with our old and new friends down at the Broken Arrow Campground. We met Jim & Patti Coble, some of our NEW PressurePro customers, who arrived yesterday and are staying at Broken Arrow for a week or maybe more???


It was a GREAT WEEK!!!!!!

My FIRST video.....

This is some kind of NEAT WEATHER this year!!!

The weather has really been GREAT in the Black Hills this summer!!! Here it is the FIRST week of August and we haven't had any real hot weather yet!!! Now that's my kind of place! Let me say it's not ALWAYS like this. I've seen some years when it was super HOT right now. It's BIKE WEEK in these Hills and we don't go out much during this week. It's so crowded you can't get anywhere, even finding the Post Office in our little town is almost impossible. However, the crowd count is down this year and it hasn't been so bad.


Back to the weather, it's been about 50 deg every morning when we get up and 82 was the high for the week. Last Monday the high was 69, Tuesday and Wednesday it was 77. The next 3 days highs were 81, 80 and 81. It doesn't get much better than that!!!!!


The bikes are all heading out and they have thinned out considerably the last day or two. HOWEVER, This mornings headlines are "Biker Shot". Sounds like the HELL'S ANGELS have made their presence known again this year. I'm sure you will soon see it on your National News TV channel.


So, what else is NEW? Well, the Electricians came Monday and put our electrical wiring to the POLE BLDG..............

The Line is in and the "crooked" ditch is covered up. (-: Now I have electric plugs inside and my 220 welder hooked up!!

It sure is nice to have a place to get everything in out of the weather and plug in battery chargers, etc.

Someday if we get to the point where we can't travel or have to downsize considerably, we plan on making this into our living quarters. This will be the entrance and the living room and kitchen. The wall will be just left of the entrance door, that is 18 ft. It will be 18 x 40....we don't want a very big space.

This will be the Bedroom way in the back, then the Bath. Right where that little table against the wall sits, I framed out an area so I can put the plumbing and sewer in without having to chip out the Concrete. Right now this area makes us a nice out of the wind and weather gathering place.

We have dedicated this Building to Son SCOTT, whom we just lost recently to Cancer. I discussed this building so much with him and he wanted to come up and help me build it. I will say that he was here EVERY DAY supervising the job and helping us make decisions..........Boy, we miss him!!!!!! His name will be etched in the concrete FOREVER!!!! NEVER FORGOTTEN!!!!!


The time is FLYING BY!!!!!!!,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Seems like we just got here. Only 6 weeks until we will be loading up and leaving. Where did it go??? That time will be here soon and we will be on our way to Lincoln to spend a few days with Ann.. Then on down to Hutchinson, KS for the HDT rally....where all of the many Friends and Folks with Heavy Duty Trucks gather for a week of fun, friendship and learning about these SUPER tow rigs we all have built. I always look forward to our travels, but our time up here in the Black Hills is one of the most enjoyable times of each year.

Our friends Mark and Dale are still with us....we're having a wonderful time. Mark has been helping Pat "tune up" our PressurePro website and transferring a lot of files to her new Dell laptop computer. He is also updating our old Dell desktop with new RAM and a new Power Supply. Thanks, Mark!!! To celebrate, we had a fish fry last night....South Dakota Walleye, "Southern" Cheese Grits and Hushpuppies, and Cole Slaw....YUM!!!!:-)

Pole Bldg COMPLETED!!!

Howdy!!!! Glad to have you visit our Blog! Hope your week was a good one. We made good progress with our building project. IT'S ALL DONE!!! Can you believe it? I can't... we've been planning it for 4+ years and it finally happened.

Tuesday morning early(6:30am) the concrete people showed up right on schedule..........The POURING began!!

People and wheel barrels were going every direction........



Soon it looked like this....... OOPS..don't know what happend to this picture...



The next day the drive and the sidewalk were poured and the inside floor had set up and was ready for the "joints" to be cut....



Cutting the "joints" made it VERY dusty! Pat and I washed it all out with a water hose and here it is almost dried. Looking GOOD!!!



The electric is all ready to hook up and I even brought some of my tools over from the storage shed........


Just a little over 2 weeks ago, July 15TH, this is how it looked......................


Aug 2ND it looks like this.....Wow, amazing........There were times I wondered if it would EVER happen and here it is DONE!! Getting contractors to do stuff up here in the Hills is a TASK!! We are going to enjoy it!!!

Pat already has her little "chat room" all set up. Some place to get in out of the wind and weather. Happy Hour MUST go on, rain or shine!!!

NEXT PROJECT was to get the ditch dug for the electrical line. Digging up here in this ROCK country is no simple matter!!! We rented a TRENCHER at the local hardware store and began chewing through the rock. Good friend and fellow Rv'er Jim Vickers stopped by and was checking on our work. When he saw this ditch he stated "what were you drinking when you did that"? HaHa........Yep, it's a little crooked!!!!!:-) That little trencher didn't like the side hill slope, nor did it like all the rocks it was hitting. Plus, it was not self-propelled.... you had to PULL it BACKWARD. It was hard to tell where you were going to say the least, but eventually with a lot of SWEAT, we got it 18" deep or close enough. WHEW, that was a JOB!!! That little machine about tore us up!!! Myself, Mark Bruss and Pat were WORN OUT after that little ordeal. Glad we didn't have another 30' to go!!!!


OOPS, forgot to mention our good friends Mark and Dale Bruss arrived THURSDAY right on schedule.....just in time to help us dig the electrical ditch. It's GREAT to see them and have them around for a spell. Hope we didn't work them too hard the first day!!

Well ,that's about it for another week..........we all need a little rest. All that excitement for a couple of old folks has about done us in.........Now to start filling up that 40X40 pole Bldg!! I already have a start on that....

Pole Building

Hello All,
Everybody is asking about our new Pole Building garage. So here are several pictures of the progress this week:

They continued getting all the sheeting on the roof, sides and front.





Jim and Ellie Meacham stopped by to look at the progress. Here the roof and one side are covered with the metal.

That's it for this week,,,,a lot accomplished, plus we managed to ship out 4 PressurePro Systems and The DelRosario's stopped by and picked up a full system and Repeater for their New 2008 Phaeton. They are staying up at the beautiful Hart Ranch Resort near Rapid City. Don has been full timing for 14 years! Wow, a year longer than us!!! It was enjoyable meeting this neat couple, who have just been married for 6 months.......CONGRATULATIONs are in order!!!!!

The FISH were all safe this week, we didn't even have a chance to go fishing!!! Ha! We've been hitting it TOO HARD!!! Ms Pat wants a vacation,,,,,,,can you imagine that!! ??? I thought we WERE on vacation!!

We had another WONDERFUL "potluck/BBQ" yesterday afternoon at the Broken Arrow Campground. We had lots of folks attending .... a few that couldn't make it last week...and we lost a couple. Attending this week were: Jim & Ellie, Jim & Donnalyn, Ray & Barb, Larry & LeeAnn, Dick & Lou, Doyle & Feona, Reve & Susan, Larry & Geri (Broken Arrow Campground owners & wonderful hosts), and of course, yours truly....Mike & Pat. Read Ellie's Blog and LeeAnn's Journal for a few pictures and details.

We managed to get our meat cooked and had just finished eating when we were "rudely interrupted" by one of our FAMOUS South Dakota thunderstorms. Sorry we all had to take off in such a hurry but that's a small price to pay for an otherwise beautiful day and lots of fun and fellowship with our friends.

It was a GREAT WEEK!!!!!!!

Greetings and WELCOME!!

We stayed busy again this week. A large order of PressurePro Systems came in from our supplier on Monday and it was just in the nick of time. We shipped out 6 systems during the week, plus a PowerTank was shipped to Virginia. Our bill at the Post Office is huge! But that is a good sign. :-)

Tuesday they started on our long desired Pole Building

After we measured out the exact location, the holes were drilled for the poles. As usual they ran into some rock and had tough drilling in a few places. (click on pictures to enlarge)
But soon they were all dug!





Poles up and ready for the Concrete truck.


It's going up FAST!! Only 2 guys working on it.

By Friday at noon when they quit it was really taking shape. By next Friday it should be all done and ready for the concrete floor. That is if the weather holds!! Keep your fingers crossed.



Our friends Jutta and Doug Franks stopped in Saturday morning for a visit. They are our customers and neighbors down at Retama Village in Mission, TX. They are staying at the Broken Arrow campground just south of us. It was great seeing them. Here is their blog:
D&J's Adventures

We all got together yesterday afternoon (Saturday) and had a cook out down at the Broken Arrow Campground. Present are Jim & Ellie Meacham, Reve & Susan Carberry, Doyle & Feona Payne, Doug & Jutta Franks, Pat & I and we asked the owners, Larry and Geri Gustafson to join us. They not only joined us, but furnished the gas grill, the neat picnic pavillion and some delicious grilled potatoes. We have gotten to know Larry and Geri quite well since they opened this campground just a couple years ago and what GREAT people they are!!! Real pleasure meeting up with them. Everyone tells us what GREAT hosts they are. If you are going to be in the area be sure to check them and their campground out. Here are a few pictures of the cook out.

This is Larry Gustafson the owner of Broken Arrow campground. He not only owns the place, but he furnishes the grill, the shelter and he COOKS too!!

This is Larry's wife Geri and Pat. Larry admits that Geri is the "brains" of the outfit!! Super couple!! Nice Place!!

This is Doyle and Feona Payne, our new friends and Dri-Wash customers (and soon to be PressurePro customers, we hope) from Oklahoma. They are relatively new full timers and are enjoying their new lifestyle very much.

More new friends, Reve and Susan Carberry came over from another local campground to join us. They are our customers and fellow hikers from New York. Here we are waiting for the food!

Ah, all chowed down!! Good Food, Good Friends and a GREAT PLACE!!!

Larry and LeeAnn McCormick also stopped by to say Hi. They couldn't stay for our wonderful meal due to a prior commitment but I'm sure they'll be joining us the next time. Check out Jim & Ellie's Blog for a few more details and pictures.

With all this activity we still managed to spend a day on the lake fishing!! Monday morning at 7:15 we found ourselves down at Hot Springs out on Lake Angostura fishing. By 2pm Pat had managed to catch 2 nice 19" walleyes. I caught one that was just barely a keeper at 14.1". We released several that were "just" under the wire, but still had enough for a meal or two!! Friday we had Walleye and good old "southern cheese grits",,,,,,,boy was it good!!! My favorite!!!

That was about our extent of excitement for the week. Staying real busy seems to be the answer for us right now. The time is passing fast!!! Now we are looking for a Concrete Contractor to put a floor in the Pole Building. No easy task up here this time of the year, several won't even call you back!!

Another WONDERFUL week in the BLACK HILLS of SD.

MONDAY after we got our 4 mile walk in I had a project to do that I had been putting off for a while and it needed to be done. Our Electric steps had developed a crack in the metal where it attached. The only way to fix it was to remove them, weld and reinforce and reinstall them. No easy task!! Those steps are HEAVY!! After we got them off, I took them to Doug at the Ruby Creek Ranch north of Custer for repair. Doug and his wife Becky have a beautiful ranch out in the country and do METAL ART......plus Doug builds "anything big or small" out of metal. He has a GREAT shop with all kinds of up-to-date tools. Doug welded it all up for me and added some gusset plates to give it the strength it should have had in the beginning. BEAUTIFUL JOB! When I got ready to pay the bill,,,it was $10.00. Yep, you read right $10.00 total.....
Only in CUSTER,SD.
We enjoyed meeting Doug and looking at their beautiful metal art work and seeing their ranch and his shop. Funny how things happen, this was pure luck (good luck). I saw Doug's small ad in the local paper that he did welding and repair. I asked my friend Mike Nielsen who runs the local hardware store if he had heard of of them and he told me that Doug did GOOD work. So we gave him a call and that's how this meeting came about. Amazing!!We will be back to buy some of these items. Take a look at their web site Ruby Creek Ranch . Oh, did Imention they do "Chuck Wagon" Breakfasts, Dinners and Suppers. It's all on their website.

Now those heavy metal steps were a job to take off, but WOW, it was really tough to get them back up under the Teton and bolted down. (or I mean up!) With Ms Pats help we were finally able to get the job done......NOW they are SOLID!!!! Well done... mark that off the list.......

Meet Reve & Susan Carberry.... full timers from upper New York State. They are parked nearby at Custer's Gulch campground and saw that we lived close by. They had been wanting a PressurePro Tire Monitoring System for quite a while and had heard about us, so they decided the time had come...Lucky for us. They called and we invited them over for a glass of lemonade and a demo of the system. This picture shows them as the proud owners of a new system.. Really enjoyed meeting these nice folks......Ya gotta just love this life!! I advised Reve if he had a problem installing it to just give us a call and we would be there in 5 minutes. He later advised me that he installed it without the slightest hitch, including the Echo Repeater. They have a beautiful Travel Supreme Motorhome. They love to hike, so Friday we took them on our little Stockade Lake trail for about 3.5 miles and they enjoyed it so much.... now they are ready to make the famous Harney Peak journey. Looking forward to that in the near future....

This is Jim & Ellie Meacham, full timers originally from Colorado. They ordered a PressurePro system from us about a year ago. They are parked just south of us in the Broken Arrow Campground. They just got a BRAND NEW PHAETON Motorhome by Tiffin. WOW is it a beauty!!! They call it "the castle" and believe me it is just that!! (click to enlarge)


It is longer than their old Motorhome and they were missing a few Sensor signals occasionally on the Toad, so they wanted our opinion of what would correct it. Ellie invited us down to make a "house call". Now I love troubleshooting on the rig rather than on the phone, so we jumped at the opportunity. PLUS, she also invited us for BBQ chicken!!!! Now that's bribery at its BEST!!! LOL.

The Echo Repeater was the answer to "missing Sensor" problem so Jim and I installed an Echo Repeater in the rear closet of his new coach. That should take care of any and all missed signals. We love meeting and spending time getting to know our customers and making new friends for life!!! Check out Ellie's Blog .


Mike Gorman who lives in Rapid City and is about to go full timing had been talking to us about a PressurePro system for some time wanted to drive down and get one while we were here. Mike is the Adjutant General for the South Dakota National Guard.........It was a pleasure meeting Mike and showing him how our PressurePro system worked on our rig. He knows that if he has any trouble installing it, we will be right close!!! I don't think he will have a problem, but I do hope we get to see more of him down the road. More customers and friends.....(I forgot to get a picture of Mike,,,,:-( shame on me!!) Now we gotta see him again!


We did get one day of fishing in at Angostura Lake, but it wasn't spectacular. But it was a beautiful day to be on the lake, after the early morning storm and heavy rain had passed. That slowed us down a couple hours but Pat caught a nice Walleye, so it wasn't a total loss. You know what they say, even a poor day "fishin" is better than a day of "wishing you were fishin". Is that the way that goes?,,,Oh well, you fishermen know what I'm saying!!!:-)

It was another GREAT WEEK!!!!

It was 37 deg here this morning when we got up! Now that's cooler than normal, but we love it and thank goodness for heat pumps, even in July!!! It will soon be warming up and we will wish it would cool down!!! I would tell you that there was FROST on our Honda,,,,but you wouldn't believe it.......But it is true!!!!

Very ENJOYABLE 4TH of JULY !!

Last Sunday after church we did get a nice bike ride in the Park. It was such a SUPER afternoon and we hadn't taken the Bike out for a spin together since we got it last winter. It was really an enjoyable 50 mile trip. The weather was perfect and the traffic was light. We first went to Game Lodge Campground where our friends and Mission, TX neighbors Dick and Shirley Peer are Campground Hosting. We missed them!!! They were out somewhere riding their bike......Shucks.

So we proceeded on down the Wildlife loop, hoping to maybe meet them on the road. Down on the far South end of the Park in his normal spot was our old friend Bob Sperry. Bob and his wife Ann have worked at the Park for 12-13 (maybe a few more) years every summer. Bob is a retired school teacher from Oklahoma. Ann is the control dispatcher and operates the control tower and radio maintaining a fire and emergency lookout on top of Mt. Coolidge.

This is Bob Sperry, Historian. He is all set up under a nice shade tree where he gives programs on Buffalo hunting as it was years ago. He dresses the part and has the buffalo hides and rifles. Bob explains the procedures the Buffalo hunters went through. He is a world of information and always draws a crowd. It was sure nice to see Bob. He is looking GREAT after his big round with Cancer. He has lost a lot of weight and after much Chemo and Radiation, he is in REMISSION. Praise the Lord!!! Good for you Bob!!!!


4TH of JULY,,,, We enjoyed a nice family cook out at my niece's place in Rapid City. It was neat seeing all of my brothers family. Jami & Lyle Hack, of Rapid City, Juli Long, of Alliance, NE., Jill & Dom Harris of Alliance and my Sister-in-law Connie & her husband John Hansen, also of Alliance. Plus Jami's 2 and Jill's 4 children. It was a full house, but a lot of fun and the food was superb!! GREAT being with family on this Independence day!!!! My brother, who passed away nearly 11 years ago, would be so proud of his family!! But then, he is watching and I'm sure is enjoying.:-)


MT RUSHMORE FIREWORKS ! Each year the Fireworks Display at Mt. Rushmore is OUTSTANDING and receives world recognition. Folks arrive before 9am to get a spot at the base of the mountain to see this event. There was an estimated 30-35,000 people on hand to see it and that many more outside of the area watching it from afar.

Our place is about 20 miles away and we can see some of the higher, larger displays. However, since they don't start until 9:15 or later and as most of you know, we get up at 4am so 9:15 is past our bed time.....we elected to watch them from the bedroom TV. I think I made it through about a dozen big displays and blasts.

SATURDAY .... grass mowing time.



This is Quinton Cordell and his sister Katlyn. Quinton has been my head mow guy for about 3 years now. He lives with his family right across the street and does a fine job of keeping up with our yard. Thank You very much Quinton, don't know what we would do without you!!! Wonderful neighbors!!!



That's about it for this week, now it's off to Church this morning and we start another week. I thank God for this wonderful life and opportunity to enjoy it. Thanks also to our many men and women in our military services that have kept this country FREE!!!!

Great BUSY week !!

This week was one of those BUSY weeks that you meet yourself coming and going!!


Monday we got up early and headed down to Alliance, Nebr to get our pickup and boat out of storage. I hadn't taken it out the last two summers because the lakes were so low it was almost impossible to fish in them. But this year has been a WET one and I hear the fishing is GOOD. Pat and I are ones that don't like to pass up any good fishing!!!

The Ole Pickup fired right up and we brought it the 140 miles up to our place in Custer. Now to get all the dust blown off, oil changed and ready to fish!!

Tuesday morning early our great friends and the Pastor of our church called and ask if we would like to go fishing with them for the day!!! It looked like the makings of a BEAUTIFUL day. I have learned to NEVER pass up an invitation to go fishing. Pat told them "of course". It wasn't long before we were buying night crawlers and headed south about 40 miles to our FAVORITE fishing lake, ANGOSTURA Reservoir. Here is a picture of their neat fishing rig.......Let's get it in that water!!!!HOT DOG!!! I'm ready to fish!!

Meet Neal and Deb Hughes. What FINE folks!! We had a WONDERFUL day fishing. Here we are at about 3:00pm, wore out!!

I hadn't been fishing for so long I hardly remembered how! But we hadn't been out long when I tore into this NICE 24" Walleye. WOW!! That was fun,,,,,what a way to start the season. Pat caught a couple of nice 17" Walleyes and a small mouth Bass. Neal & Deb caught their share of nice Walleye, too. We even had to throw back a bunch of Walleye that didn't quite make the 14" length requirement.


Now that was a SUCCESSFUL day!!! Thanks Neal and Deb, boy you guys are FUN to fish with!!!



Wednesday we both had a dentist appointments in Deadwood, about 50 miles North of us. So it was up and at'em again early for that and on to Rapid City afterwards for a FULL day of shopping and getting supplies. While in town we stopped and talked to a contractor about building us a metal building at our property in Custer.....Humm, interesting..would sure be nice. Gotta think about this,,,$$$



Thursday we received a call from Allan and Jeanne Webster and they wanted a PressurePro Tire Monitoring System. They attended the RV Dreams Rally and are on their way to the Escapade in Gillette, WY. They were staying over near Hermosa, about 30 miles east of us in the Heartland RV park. So we ran the system over to them and helped them install it. More nice RV'n folks....we meet more neat people in this kind of lifestyle. Isn't it great!! They are/were from Alabama and have been full timing since May and loving it.......The system went on smooth and we were on our way. (forgot to get a picture of these folks,,,darn!:>(



Back up to Rapid City. Need to talk to this guy again about this building a little more......?????questions!!! When we got home we had orders for two more PressurePro systems and a Repeater to get in the mail....Got 'er done just in time for HAPPY HOUR!!!!:>) Whew!!!


Friday I spent a hard day getting my boat ready to go. It hadn't had any attention for a while, so it needed a lot. Put on 2 new tires and repainted the wheels, charged the batteries, serviced out the motor and actually got it to run for a spell. Everything I have is OLD, but it is GOOD!!!



Whew, now I was really wore out, even a little late for HAPPY HOUR. But its never too late!!


Later we watched the movie "Bucket List". What a great movie!!! Check it out if you haven't seen it. The cancer thing kinda struck home right at the moment, as it's a lot of what Scott went through. But it was a neat movie and I'm not a movie fan, but I enjoyed it.


Saturday we planned on a nice hike in the park, then a Motorcycle ride out to see Dick and Shirley Peer. They are our neighbors at Retama Village RV Park in Mission, TX and are out here in CUSTER STATE PARK campground hosting......

But, it was cool and windy and soon turned VERY smoky and we were beat from a long week, so we just hung out.......a lazy day!!!


Plus today(Saturday) June the 28Th, is Scott's birthday. He would have been 47 today. I had a little problem staying focused and had many, many flashbacks of him throughout the day. I guess there will be days like that and I need to learn to cope with it. But gee I miss him, can't get around that. HAPPY BIRTHDAY SCOTT!!, love you man!! You will always be in my heart.


We found out all the heavy smoke that filled the hills today blew in all the way from either Calif or Canada. Who knows, just glad it wasn't any local fires!! So far its been quite wet and the fire danger is moderate to low in the area.......That's good!!!



Sunday. So today its off to Church and maybe we'll get that bike ride in today....who knows?

It looks like a super day!!
