First an UPDATE on the Transplant..........

Scott's Bone Marrow Transplant was done on Monday, Feb 11....it will be 2 weeks ago tomorrow. So far, the transplant seems to have been successful. He has had lots of complications and lots of "bumps in the road" from all the meds he is taking but he is taking it one "bump" at a time. Scott is a real "trooper"....I think he will like that name since he worked for the Nebraska Safety Patrol for many years and is still a "trooper" at heart. And, let's don't forget Ann. All I can say about Ann is she is Scott's "Guardian Angel". She is taking care of Scott like a PRO and he is so lucky to have her. Scott is very upbeat and is looking forward to the day when he can move to his "temporary" home away from the hospital. He will have to stay in Omaha for a few more weeks to remain close to the hospital. We are PRAYING he will be home in Lincoln real soon and be cancer FREE!!!.


Here is a picture of Scott with his Hair Hat that I brought him from Texas. He calls it his "lucky hair hat". This was taken the day of the transplant. (Feb 11Th,2008)



He has what he calls a "Garden Hose" installed, that enters under the skin on his right chest and a tube that runs beneath the skin up directly into the Jugular vein. This is called a Hickman Port and is a double port line for administering all the medications, chemo, etc. He also still has the PICC line in his right arm.

Scott has quite a journey still ahead, but he has came a long way. We are very proud of the progress he has made. We all certainly appreciate all your thoughts and prayers. Special thanks to those that have posted notes to him on his CaringBridge web site. Please keep it up, its what is helping him pull through this!!!!

We are enjoying a few day of "catching up" around our little place here in the desert. Next week we begin our "barrage" of annual medical checkups. Tomorrow we are headed to Phoenix to see the Dermatologist and my prostate cancer specialist. We also have a dozen other errands to run while in the BIG city!!! Don't like to go into all that traffic and congestion unless necessary.



Its been a WET spring here in this part of Arizona this year. The desert is already starting to get real GREEN!!! That's kind of unusual here, but does happen every few years...

Things will be blooming all over the place in a few weeks. A beautiful site!!!

It was a GREAT WEEK!!!!

First of all, I must tell you that Son Scott's Bone Marrow Transplant took place Monday as scheduled without a hitch!!!!! Hallelujah!!!!!!
We were so concerned about it we had a hard time keeping our minds on business!!! So far, other than a few complications, it has gone extremely well for him. It will take approximately 10 days before they will know for sure that his body accepts the Transplant. Please keep him and Ann in your prayers. WOW,,,,,it was a BUSY week!!!! We moved 173 miles to Casa Grande, AZ for the Gypsy Journal Rally. We were there and all set up for business Monday morning. It was a GREAT rally. We gave our 1.5 hr Seminar on Tuesday. Shortly after that business picked up and we sold a BUNCH of PressurePro Tire Monitoring systems and two PowerTanks. We sold MORE than we thought we would, in fact we RAN OUT of stock. Several others wanted a system, so we called our Distributor and ask them to "overnight" a shipment. Well, they did better than that!!



They flew a shipment into the local airport themselves!!!! Now you can't beat service like that!

Yesterday we got back to North Ranch about 2:30 and it was 4pm before we got everything unloaded and had a chance to relax. BOY-O-BOY, its good to be back HOME at the Ranch!!! At the Fairgrounds in Casa Grande, we only had 15amps and no sewer hookups. We both needed a nice LONG, HOT shower!!!!! Now we need some R&R!!! WE are WORN OUT.............Considering retirement.............:-) I have about a dozen projects going that I have to complete first!!!

Its a busy LIFE!!!! Thank GOD!!!!! Otherwise I'd worry myself to death.

Back HOME!!!!

On Thursday Feb 7th Mikel and I left the COLD, COLD, country and flew from Omaha back to Tucson. It was about 12 deg when we got to the Omaha Airport and we were anxious to get back to AZ. When we stepped off the airplane in Tucson, it was a beautiful sunny day and the temp was around 70. What a change!!!! Pleasant change !!!

Although we were anxious to leave the cold country, it was extremely hard to leave Scott and Ann in Omaha. They arrived at the Univ of Nebr Medical Center where we were staying 2 days before we had to leave for home. He had surgery on his chest where they installed a HICKMAN, line. It is a double port line that is surgically implanted in his jugular vein. This is a more direct line for the Chemo and the Bone Marrow Transplant.

Shortly thereafter, he began receiving the Chemo doses, plus several other shots and drip lines. The Chemo was pumped into him 4 times a day, 6am-12noon-6pm and 12midnight. It took around 2 hours for each dose to be pumped into his body. He and Ann are in the same room at the Medical Center Hospital, right next to the Lied Transplant Center where we were staying. They allowed Mikel and I to visit with him a few hours each day since we would be leaving soon and were blood relatives. No other visitors are allowed, as he was in the "bubble" and most of the nurses had to were masks and gloves as they entered his room. Even if we would have stayed, we wouldn't have been able to continue visiting him. They MUST eliminate any possibility of contamination as the Chemo continues to wipe out his immune system and the CANCER. This will prepare him for the Transplant. If all continues to go as well as it is, the Transplant will be Monday, Feb 11th. That's the BIG DAY!!!!!! We are all hoping and praying that it will be successful and his body will accept it.........

I mentioned it was hard to leave Scott at such a dramatic time as this. It was also hard to watch this Chemo do its job and drag him down. Its gets worse and worse with each dose! He gets nauseous, feverish, chills with violent shaking, diarrhea and many other side effects along with extreme fatigue. I felt so sorry for him and also felt so helpless! Thank God Ann is there by his side assisting him in every manner. I realize how hard this is for both of them and I am so PROUD!!! I must say that Scott is standing up exceptionally well through all this and what he has already been through! His outlook is great and he is happy and friendly, joking continually with his nurses. It confirms the feeling that he will BEAT this thing!!! If anyone can, he will.

Tomorrow is the BIG day. Keep him in your thoughts and prayers with us and I know it will come out succesful.

DIA is a NICE airport. Its new since I used to live and work here.....We enjoyed touring it. The 4.5 hr lay over got a little long. We both wanted to get home.....





Here is our gate and its time to load !!! Next stop TUCSON, AZ. Can't wait to see Ms. Pat's smiling face...............PLUS,,,,today is our Anniversary!!!!!!!!!

Mikel and I were happy to have our mission completed. The exact match of Stem Cells are now in easy possesion of the Medical Team at the Univ of Nebr Medical Center for the TRANSPLANT!!!!!!
Its interesting to note (as I understand it) that both boys will have the same DNA after the Transplant and Scott will acquire Mikel's blood type. Scotts is O+ and Mikel is A+, so Scott will also be A+.

We will be anxiously waiting for the results of the Transplant and I will keep you advised. Also please visit Scott and Anns CaringBridge web sight. They are keeping it up as best they can while all this is happening................*Leave them a note!!!

Greetings from ALASKA!!!!! errrrr,,,,NEBRASKA!

Nothing against my home state but I can't help but wonder "why in the world someone would live here!!!!"



Pat took my oldest son, Mikel and I to the Tucson airport last Wed morning and we flew out here to Omaha, Nebr. and checked into the University of Nebr Medical Center. When we arrived, we were met by my good friends and Mikel's Aunt and Uncle, Larry and Judie Johnson. It was GREAT seeing them again and they graciously took us to the Nebraska House which is a part of of this very large Medical Complex. It was brutally COLD!!! Everybody was dressed like Eskimo's.




Early the next morning Mikel began his preparation for the Bone Marrow Transplant. It was a FULL day of tests and answering questions and filling out forms. At 4:30 he began the series of shots he has to take to increase the number of stem cells in his blood. This is done because the amount of stem cells in your body is normally very low. There are two medicines called Growth Factors that are used. They are Neupogen and Leukine and will increase the number of cells in the blood stream. These are two shots and have to be administered very slowly because they will cause extreme pain if given fast. These shots will be given every morning at 9:30am and on Monday Feb 4th the Stem Cell collection will begin. We will start the day at 7am with more growth factor shots, then at 8am the actual Stem Cell collection process begins. Mikel will be hooked up to a machine that will pull blood from his arm into the machine and remove certain cells from his blood; and then pump the rest of the blood from the machine back into him. This machine will continue to pump blood from him, into it and then back until about 12 quarts of blood have passed through the machine. This process will take from 4 to 6 hours. If enough Hematopoietic stem cells are not collected with one collection, the collection process will be repeated the next day. These Stem Cells are then frozen until Scott has received sufficent Chemo and his body is ready for the Transplant. This will be at least a week after Mikel has donated.




It's very interesting that these Hematopietic stem cells collected for Scott will be maintained in storage until his death or until his Physician indicates that there is no further need for them. Thats neat!!! So if Scott should need more at a later date, they will already have them on hand. WOW,, the wonders of modern medicine!!!



Our flight plans call for us to fly back to Tucson on Thursday. If all goes as planned we should be back in the WARM country and we can put these winter coats back where they belong,,,in STORAGE!!!! Here are a few pictures of our trip and the area:

This is the Lied Transplant Center. We have nice room here and all the medical offices and rooms are all right here. This is also the same place Scott will have his Last HEAVY 5-6 days of Chemo and then the transplant.........After that, he has to stay here within 10 minutes of the place for 3 months..........It's 55 miles from his home......

We are all looking forward to the BIG day, MONDAY. The day of the donation. Then the next REALLY, REALLY Big day will be the TRANSPLANT. That will hopefully happen in 6 to 10 days. We are all praying that it is successful!!! Please keep Scott in your prayers!!!

Duane & Carol's Airport!!!!!!!

This is Duane & Carol's new Home/Airport. Its out in the country near Aguila, AZ. The streets are RUNWAYs and airplanes have the right of way!!!

Man O Man, what a FUN day today was!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Duane and Carol Sprague had invited us to their NEW Airport HOME!!!! It is AWESOME!!!!

What a TREAT it was to visit them.......Duane is a Pilot and loves flying. Many of you know that I have a pilot's license and I love to fly also. I don't get many chances anymore and always look for any opportunity to get in the AIR!! I was so worried that the winds or the weather would not be good enough today so that we could fly.

Duane and Carol used to live here at North Ranch and Duane had a Glider. He could remove the wings and store the glider in a trailer. Every time he wanted to go up flying he had to tow it to the airport and put it together and get a tow plane to tow him up. Fun, but kind of a hassle. About a year ago, Duane purchased a NEAT brand new little 2-place plane. Boy it was nice!!! Ever since I saw it the first time, I wanted to fly in it. Duane knew I was extremely anxious to fly with him. However, he wanted to get a few hours "seat" time in it before he would be comfortable taking passengers. Couldn't argue with that!!!!:-) Duane wanted to find a place closer to an airport. Did he EVER luck out...They found this beautiful home with an AIRPORT. Plus, it was only about 30 miles away from North Ranch. The Sprague's had an extremly nice place here at the Ranch, so it was no easy decision to give it up and move. But this chance of a lifetime came along on this neat place and they couldn't pass it up! WAIT until you see it !!!!!! The move was no easy task, but they got it done. We hadn't seen the place, only heard about it, so it was a special treat and we were IMPRESSED!!!! Love the place!!!! Its out in the country on a big lot and the house and the hanger are FANTASTIC!!!!! What a GREAT privilege it is to know these SUPER people!!!

Duane says "OK, I'm ready to go". Lets get up there, as the winds were starting to worry us. We took off!!! 10 minutes after we got there, we were in the air!!!

Pat is all strapped in and ready to go..............I think she was a "little" nervious but didn't want me to know it!! :-)

As you can see there is a lot of window, so visibility is SUPERB!!!!

Here we are coming in for final on Runway 17, just a couple hundred feet off the ground. We had a little crosswind fron the left and small light planes are much more difficult to land in a cross wind than heavier ones, but Duane did just fine and we touched down smoothly. I was impressed.

After such a wonderful day, what better could top it off than a beautiful delicious dinner served by Carol. WOW,,,,,,,,,,,

Now believe me when I say this was a GREAT DAY!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks so much to our good, long time friends Duane and Carol. Plus, you know what? They even invited us back!!! I didn't hesitate when I answered "You Bet!!"

Here we are at NORTH RANCH !!! Jan 20. 2008

We got the word!!! Son Scott will soon get his 3rd and toughest round of Chemo. They are now ready for the preliminary procedures for the Bone Marrow transplant to begin. The dates have been set and My oldest son Mikel and I will fly to Omaha, NE on Jan 30th so this can be started. We were going directly to Omaha from S. Texas, but it works out that we have the time needed to move West to our place in Congress, AZ. Then we will fly from Tucson, where Mikel lives.





We departed from Mission, TX on Thursday Jan 17th. Three days and 1282 miles later we were on our lot at North Ranch RV Park in Congress, AZ.





This week will be a short post. It took me a couple days to get loaded and ready to make the move, now it will take at least a couple days to get situated here. So, I'm going to direct those viewers that do not already get my Travel Journal, to it so you can read about our trip. While your on that web, just click on the area that requests an update. That way each time we have traveling to report you will automatically get notice.....

All Valley RV Show---Mercedes, TX Jan 10,11 & 12.

The All Valley RV Show was held this week in this BUSY South Texas Valley. This place is full of WINTER Texans.......It was held at the County Fair grounds. We decided to have a PressurePro Booth. About 5 years ago we visited our friends James and Marge Curtis that were staying down here and we attended this RV show. Our good friends and favorite travel companions Louis and Janette Hughes were with us. We NEVER dreamed we would be here now, own an RV lot here and be working this show!!! You just never know what's down the road or around the corner.

The Fair Grounds are 35 miles from our place in Mission, so we got up every morning, drove over and spent 10 hours each day in the booth......Working!!! As usual it was an "experience". You meet a lot of old friends, make new friends and a lot of fun and interesting people.....

This is the fairgrounds and our booth is right inside the door in the tan building on the right.

There were 3 large buildings full of RV's on display with several vendors inside and out. The weather was beautiful all 3 days.

This is our booth where we spent 10 hours each day talking until we were hoarse about the Fantastic product that we feel is one of the greatest SAFETY items in RVing. There were LOTS and LOTS of people at the Show. http://www.pressureprosystem.com/



All in All, it was a good show. It gave us a change of pace for a few days to keep our life challenging plus interesting and we made a couple bucks.



That being said, its nice to be back HOME. Needless to say it "wore" us out!!!! But that doesn't take much anymore.........:-)



Now to get all this STUFF put away and get back to NORMAL, whatever that is!!!!



One special pleasant surprise at this show, I saw an old school mate who I actually roomed with back in school . WOW, that was over 50 years ago!!!!!!! A special "HI" to Tom Boots and his wife. It was GREAT seeing you again! Both of their parents had ranches right near ours in the Sandhills of Nebraska.



We are Tuckered Out, but Oh it WAS A GREAT DAY !!!!!!!!!

Christmas Day 2007

Its an OLD TIME tradition!!!

It was a tradition for years after I moved to Florida in 1977 that every Christmas Day I would drive to the Beach and have a glass of Champagne. Sort of a celebration of being OUT of the cold country and just give Thanks for LIFE. The last few years since we have been in the Arizona Desert during Christmas we haven't been able to do that.

Well since we are only about 80 miles from the Gulf Of Mexico this year here in Mission, TX., we decided to renew that tradition! We drove to South Padre Island and walked in the SAND. It was a beautiful day and a nice drive.


Here are of few pictures of the area.

The Beaches are not near as pretty as Northwest Florida, but the water and the weather was perfect. It was an enjoyable day.....

We are both getting a little "itchy" to do some traveling as we have SAT about as long as we can handle. Fuel prices really put a crimp on us, so we just have to PARK more. Hard for us to do, cause we like to MOVE. We have a 3 day RV Rally to work here in the Rio Grande Valley on Jan 10-11-&-12Th where we have a booth with our www.PressureProSystem.com business. Then shortly thereafter we plan to move on to our RV lot in Arizona, that's about 1200 miles..........So we'll be MOVIN ON soon!!!!!!

New Year----------New Coach House !!!

Happy NEW YEAR Everybody !!!!!!

We are really enjoying our Coach House! We haven't had a "house" of any kind for over 10 years and this is just the right size........We never want a BIG house again, so this fits the bill perfectly. For someone that wasn't going to do anything to it this first year, except maybe put in some "wiring" and lights, we got a lot more done than we expected....

We had just completed the FIRST project, Framing out the Raised Ceiling, Oct. 24.

Back in the first part of Nov, we had the Framing done, Wireing done and was working on the Insulation.

Recognize that Hide A Bed? Yep that's it! It came from our Teton. (the 5th wheel)

And the Coffee Table, and the End Tables, and the Rug!!

Now we have an "empty" spot in the end of our HOME...............Pat is already shopping! I have a feeling it will soon be filled........

We are GLAD it's done and quite happy with the way it turned out. Now I'll have to find something else to bore you with...................................

Somebody give me some suggestions,,,,what do you want to see pictures of in the area?

Soon it will be 2008, where did the time go? It flies by so fast, seems like we just celebrated New Year 2007 a couple months ago! In this day and age, we just celebrate surviving!!

It has been a GREAT year for us and now is the time to set back and recall all the memories, friends and good times we have had in this lifestyle that we both enjoy so MUCH!! I hope it can go on forever...........HAPPY NEW YEAR to EVERYONE!!!! Hope to see you down the road.

WOW, are we happy this week!!!! It's DONE!!!! We waited 3 days for the painters to show up and yesterday,,,,,,finally they came and finished touching up and second coating some of the trim.........Now its drying and I'll have to clean the tile floor a couple times and it will be DONE!!!!

Now Pat can move the Hide a Bed from the 5th wheel into the Coach House and start looking for a Love Seat to replace it. She has been waiting for that! We have a few other things like Towel Bars, Mirrors, etc. to do. Oh Ya, we have the Wet Bar to do yet, but the major stuff is done!!

It will be ready for you all to come down and spend a few nights with us now!!!!

Here it is NOW! Its interesting to note that it is EXACTLY 2 Months to the date.

Quite a lot accomplished......More than I expected. I'm glad its over. I DO NOT like that kind of work.........Never did, Never will!!!! Give me a truck or a car and a wrench, I enjoy that a LOT more....

I'm real disappointed in the progress we made this week. This Bathroom Shower is taking forever. Most of the trim is done and I could "almost" mark it off, but not quite. Still painting it.


The Final Electric is also "almost" done, but not quite.


So close, but yet so far. Should have been done a couple weeks ago.

Air Conditioner is installed... Its real quiet and does a good job...







Here is how it looked on the outside. We will frame around it with trim.








This is the corner in the bathroom where the shower goes. Here is where the problem came in. The drain was not in the proper place to fit the shower base, so it had to be moved. No big deal right? WRONG!!!! Its supposed to be in dirt,,,it wasn't. They had poured SOLID concrete around it and DEEP!!! We had to rent an Electric Hammer and remove about 6" of it. It was HARD concrete!!!! Now that we are ready to install the base, the floor is so unlevel that we have to build a concrete base for it..........All while they are trying to install and paint the trim. We were getting in each other's way.......




This is the utility room opening where we are installing the Bi-Fold doors. Sorry the picture is so dark. The flash went out on my Nikon,,,right when I need it most. Factory says its probably a Bulb blown. Gotta send it in.......bummer..




This is the shelf we built in the utility room for the Water Heater. It will soon be painted and a ROD installed in the front for support.


That's it for last week. Kind of a "problem" week. Hopefully I will have more progress to show you next week.....
